Ruud Schuthof
Ruud Schuthof represents the Major Group of Local Authorities in the Major Groups Facilitating Committee, which is engaged in UNEPs Global Civil Society Forum Cycle. The objective of this Cycle is to provide a platform for exchange and consultation on key environmental issues to be addressed by the Member States during the 25th Governing Council (GC) and the Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GMEF). The Cycle also aims at facilitating Major Groups contribution to the GC and GMEF and other international environmental forums.

Ruud Schuthof is ICLEIs Executive and Policy Assistant to the Secretary General. ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability is a global association of local governments committed to sustainability. ICLEI works with these and hundreds of other local governments through international performance-based, results-oriented campaigns and programs. ICLEI provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level. ICLEI has just welcomed Mumbai as its 1000th member. Please see for more information. Ruud advises and supports ICLEIs Secretary General, Mr. Konrad Otto-Zimmermann, on strategic matters and has a coordinating role for Local Governments input in various UN cycles (CSD, UNEP, UNFCCC).

Previously Ruud worked for, among others, the Dutch Ministry of Justice (Council for the Judiciary) and for Caritas in Kenya. Ruud holds a Master in Public Policy and Administration (The Netherlands, Great Britain) and a Master in International Humanitarian Assistance (The Netherlands, Sweden).
