Estherine Lisinge Fotabong
Estherine Lisinge Fotabong is the UNEP Country Liaison Officer for South Africa and the Environment Adviser to the NEPAD Secretariat. Fotabong coordinates the development and implementation of the NEPAD Environment Initiative and Action Plans and UNEPs activities in support of implementing the UNDAF in South Africa. She has a Master Degree in Law and a Second Master Degree in International Affairs specializing in International Policy and Practice.

Before joining UNEP, Ms Fotabong held several positions including: Assistant Lecturer in Law at the University of Soa, Yaound, Cameroon, Director of Policy and Strategy, WWF Central African Regional Programme Office, Biodiversity and NEPAD Programme Officer with UNEP-DGEF.

Ms Fotabong has worked in academia, civil society, governmental and intergovernmental organization which has given her a broad professional experience in multi-scope programme and policy formulation, planning and management. Her main interest and area of work has been in understanding the linkages between international processes and domestic policy/regulatory development and implementation in the field of sustainable development. She has been particularly interested in systemic and institutional capacity building for implementation of laws and policies-especially the MEAs.

She has served in several Panels and International Steering Committees for projects including: as a member of the CBD Expert Panel on Access and Benefit Sharing; IUCN WCPA Regional Vice-Chair for West and Central Africa; member of the NEPAD African Protected Areas Initiative Steering Committee; member of the International Steering Committee of the IPGRI Genetic Resource Policy Initiative, Member of the International Advisory Board for the Climate Change Adaptation in Africa Programme, The Africa Stockpile Programme and various others. Through these processes and in the various capacities in which she engages in them, she has made significant contribution to policy development and implementation at the international and national levels.

Ms. Lisinge-Fotabong has co-authored several publications relating to Environmental Law and Policy. She is also well traveled both international and within Africa in the course of her duties.
