Julie Marks
Since completing a major environmental assessment of Sudan in 2007, UNEP has established an active country presence and developed a Sudan Integrated Environment Programme. Today, water resource management is one of the largest components of UNEP's work in Sudan. UNEP is among the organizers of the Darfur International Conference on Water for Sustainable Peace, being held in Khartoum on 27-28 June with the aim of raising support for a series of projects urgently needed to develop a sustainable water service system for Darfur.

Formally with UNEPs Division of Communications and Public Information in Nairobi, Julie provides communications support for the UNEP team in Sudan. Her background is in major events and environment and energy communications. Julie has filled senior communication roles with Australia's Environment Department, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Australian Rugby Union (for Rugby World Cup 2003). Immediately prior to joining UNEP, her role with an Australian energy corporation included energy infrastructure and climate change issues management. She holds a Masters in International Marketing Communications from ESCEM, France.
