Sonia Gill
Sonia Gill is a Programme Assistant in the Information and Outreach Unit at UNEPs Regional Office for Africa. Working in the environmental communications field for this rich continent full of opportunities, Sonias responsibilities include coordinating and providing various information material, as well as organizing UNEP outreach campaigns within the region. She also acts as one of the focal points in implementing UNEPs Tunza programme in Africa. ROA' s major function is to integrate and complement UNEP's programme of work in the region. ROA acts as the link between the various units and centers of UNEP, and the countries in the region. Sonias work in raising the visibility of UNEP throughout Africa has seen her collaborating with various partners and stakeholders that are active in sustainable development thus ensuring that environmental awareness and concerns are highlighted in all 53 countries of the continent.

Prior to joining UNEP, Sonia worked in an advertising and public relations firm. She has also volunteered on various outreach campaigns and projects globally, and has a special interest in the humanitarian affairs field. As a journalist, her most comfortable working atmosphere would be having her laptop and desk in the middle of a tropical forest or a conflict zone. Sonia has been known for her knack to work in harsh and rigid conditions and always lives by the quote Carpe Diem.

Sonia studied Journalism and Media Studies with a focus on development communication.
