Themba Kalua is currently working as a Programme Officer in the Poverty and Environment Initiative (PEI) which is a joint UNEP-UNDP programme that provides financial and technical support to countries to build capacity for mainstreaming poverty -environment linkages into national development planning processes. He provides programme management support to the implementation of country programmes with a special focus on Malawi.
Prior to joining PEI, Themba worked in UNEP’s Quality Assurance Section mainly supporting UNEP’s efforts to improve results based management. He supported UNEP’s project approval process, in particular he coordinated the Project Review Committee (PRC). He also facilitated PRINCE2 training workshops for UNEP staff. Themba has a background in UN Programme/Project management and operations. He has managed projects/programmes for several UN agencies. He worked as head of Programme Management Support Unit (PMSU) in UNDP Malawi. He also worked in UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Malawi on UN reform and coordination of UN activities in Malawi.
Themba holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Management from University of Derby/UK and a B.Sc. in Environmental Science and Technology from University of Malawi.
