Wanhua Yang
Wanhua Yang is a Legal Officer of Division of Environmental Law and Convention out-posted in the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok. She joined UNEP in October 2007. Her primary responsibilities include providing legal assistance in response to governments request in strengthening environmental legislation and institutions in Asia Pacific; organizing training and capacity building activities in environmental law, including compliance and enforcement of environmental law and multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) at regional, sub-regional and national levels; and promoting the development of regional legal instruments.

Before joining UNEP, Wanhua worked at Canada-based International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), managing its China Programme and coordinating a high-level international advisory group dealing with the relationship between WTO rules, MEAs and national environmental law under the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development. Before IISD, she worked for environmental institutions under central and local governments in China.

She holds a Doctor of Juridical Science and a LL.M in environmental law from Indiana University Law School in the United States. She also holds a LL.M in environmental law from China University of Political Science and Law. She has authored numerous articles and publications on international environmental law, national environmental law and trade and environment.
