Maiken Hamaluba
Maiken Hamaluba, 12, attends Raserura English Medium School in the Republic of Botswana. She is in grade 8. Both her parents are teachers, and her dad has been the source of inspiration in her environmental work.

Maikens role as a Junior Board member has been to encourage school children in Botswana to plant trees. Because Botswana is semi-desert, her efforts have been well received, and Maiken has been featured many times in local news papers and radio stations talking about the importance of tree planting. She also promotes Tunza in Botswana.

In addition, Maiken has been working with Environment Online (ENO), http://eno.joensuu.fi, a network that includes about 150 countries. Maiken has been promoting tree planting in Botswana and around the ENO network.

In her work with ENO, Maiken has been advocating for planting 10 billion trees by 2015, in accordance with the UNs goal. She has also posted messages in ENOs newsletters on the importance of tree planting and how to conserve the environment. The news letter goes to all African affiliate schools (more than 100).
