Punji Leagnavar
Punji Leagnavar currently works as a consultant for UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, Energy Branch. As a member of the policy unit, she is involved in issues related to sustainable bioenergy production and consumption. She is responsible for a variety of activities within the team including supporting the ongoing work related to the development of policy guidance for decision-makers, creation of innovative financing mechanisms for modern bioenergy and rural development in Africa, and the development of certification and standards for sustainable resource use.
Prior to joining UNEP, Punji was involved in community based development and education in the United States and Thailand. She also worked as a community environmental educator for the Thailand Environment and Community Development Association (Tha Wee Sait) and with UNEP's Regional Office for Asia-Pacific on environmental advocacy programs.
Punji holds a Masters degree in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Missouri.
