Laura Rio
Laura Rio has joined UNEP as Environment and Security (ENVSEC) Initiative Senior Manager. ENVSEC is a partnership of UNEP, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Regional Environmental Centre and NATO as an associated partner. ENVSEC works in Eastern Europe, South Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia with a presence of 45 projects on the ground where it contributes to reduction of environment and security risks by bringing together the best expertise available in the UN and international organizations to the countries it serves.

Laura has worked in the UN system for more than 15 years some in environmental hot spots such as the Aral Sea basin as a manager of UN and EU projects for improved access to drinking water and sanitation in rural areas. As UN interagency coordinator she helped facilitate the transit of aid relief from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan.

Laura is a national of Italy and has an MA in Development Studies with specialization in health management and planning.
