Graciela Metternicht
Graciela Metternicht, Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Division of Early Warning and Assessment of UNEP, based in Panama, is responsible for planning, direction and implementation of projects of integrated environmental assessment and early warning in LAC. She oversees the development of the Global Environment Outlook (GEO) reports in LAC; the design of training materials and capacity building in integrated environmental assessment, including environmental indicators. Previous to this appointment she worked in research and higher degree education in Australia, for 12 years, as a Professor of Geospatial Sciences.

She has a MSc in Geoinformation (ITC, The Netherlands) and PhD in applications of remote sensing and GISystems to the mapping of land cover and land degradation (University of Gent, Belgium) that have furnished her with skills and expertise in the application of geo-spatial technologies for mapping and monitoring natural resources, particularly land degradation and agriculture-related applications.
