Butch Bacani
Butch leads the insurance and investment work programmes of UNEP Finance Initiative. UNEP Finance Initiative is a strategic public-private partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector, where UNEP works with nearly 200 banks, insurers and investment firms to understand the impacts of environmental, social and governance issues on financial performance and sustainable development.

Butch is leading the initiative to develop Principles for Sustainable Insurance for the global insurance industry. He also leads the Investment Team involved in the global activities of the Principles for Responsible Investment, an investor initiative in partnership with UNEP Finance Initiative and the UN Global Compact, which was launched in 2006 by the UN Secretary-General.

Butch possesses 15 years of experience in the financial sector and his exposure to sustainability issues span developing and developed countries. Prior to joining UNEP, Butch was based in Asia, where he spent 11 years in the insurance and reinsurance industry, principally structuring portfolios and cooperation arrangements across all lines of business with the world’s leading insurers, reinsurers and brokers domiciled in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. He has a degree in business management and enjoys scuba diving and coral reef conservation projects.
