Work history

Manfredi is working on the operationalization of the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN). The CTCN is the operational arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism and work to reduce the risks and costs of technology transfer by helping developing countries make informed decisions about mitigation and adaptation technologies that suit their needs. The CTCN will promote accelerated, diversified and scaled-up transfer of environmentally sound technologies (EST) for climate change mitigation and adaptation, consistent with the national socio-economic and sustainable development priorities of the requesting countries.

He worked as a policy advisor in the Department for Sustainable Development, Energy, and Climate at the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS). He served on the team which organized the environment-related activities of the Italian G8 presidency. Additionally, he has worked on policy issues surrounding climate change, specifically, technology transfer in the context of international negotiations on climate change, as well as bioenergy and biofuels policy in developing and developed countries. He has been a research fellow at the United Nations Foundation and the coordinator of IMELS offices in Albania and Macedonia where he was responsible for the cooperation on the Kyoto Protocol implementation and its flexible mechanisms.

Most recently he was a Research Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School working on renewable energy technologies in Germany and shale gas development in Europe.

Educational background

Manfredi Caltagirone received a J.D. at the University of Rome, Tor Vergata, and a Masters in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
