Dear Mr. Kalvakuntla,
Thank you for your question.
Policy options to mitigate climate change include among others, the production and use of cleaner fuels, improving the efficiency of energy use in all sectors, diversifying energy sources, expanding the use of cleaner production techniques and environmentally friendly technologies, managing water demand, iintroducing new practices in agriculture like advacing period of sowing or using crops with a longer growth period, formulating strong policies for diversified reforestation and protecting biodiverstiy as a wager for the ecosystem resilience.
The problem of climate change should be seriously addressed in order to reduce as rapidly as possible the effects of climate change on the Mediterranean coastal and marine environment. In this regard, the meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, scheduled for the middle of next month are expected to adopt a Declaration in which they will call for the implementation of early measures in the Mediterranean region to mitigate climat change which is vital to the preservation of resources, biodiversity and protection of the coastal areas in the Mediterranean region.
