Razi is currently the co-manager of the Poverty Environment Initiative for the Asia Pacific Region and based at UNEP's regional office in Bangkok, Thailand. Razi has 20 years of experience in environment and development in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Russian Federation.
Originally starting his career in the environment department of a regional development bank, Razi then worked for an African government, the private sector and the European Commission. His longest posting was Tanzania (6 years) where he helped to mainstream environmental sustainability into aid modalities such as budget support and sector wide approaches, and also progressed work on donor and aid harmonisation in a 'One-UN' pilot country. Razi's qualifications are in marine resources management, ecology, politics and economics.
