Dear Dr. Habib El-Habar:
Awhile back I saw an article about a water condensation device that was appropriate for arid regions. The device consisted of, essentially, a basin and a globe. Dirty water could be placed in the central portion of the basin which in turn condensed in the translucent globe. The moisture in the globe ran down into the side of the basin which of course had a separate channel to separate the pure water from the brackish water. Forgive me; I forget the name of these devices (Made in Germany as I recall). The article indicated that international organizations might employ them in areas tha would otherwise need deep wells or expensive desalination projects. What was so appealing about these simple plastic devices were that they were relatively inexpensive and could be distributed to small communities or single families. Does UNEP promote the distribution of these inventions? Have they been a success? Thank you, Dan Smithwick

Dear Mr. Smithwick,
Thank you for your message. Indeed UNEP has a Center in Japan who deals with Environmentally Sound Technologies. We have also promoted low cost, simple and practical technologies for water purification in the Mesopotamian Marshlands in South Iraq as well as low cost, simple practical technologies for sanitation purposes. You may want to contact our Center in Japan UNEP/IETC for more information.

RE: MORE INFORMATION
I am a student currently at Egerton University in my fourth year and doing a project on Distribution and Diversity of Zooplankton in waste water ecosystems. I was therefore requesting if their is any where I can get various previous studies of the aquatic ecosystems and with emphasis on waste water ecology that might be of relevance to my studies. This could go along way to enhance my background knowledge that I have gotten so far with regards to my project.
With thanks

Dear Mr. Otieno,
Thank you for your question. As we do not have any publication in this regard at the ROWA office, I suggest you search the Academic organizations in the region such as the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), the American University of Beirut (AUB) who have done some work in this field.
Regards. Habib El-Habr

Subject: Request for financial support Dear Sir I am a researcher from Iran . With more than nine years experience I used to work on many biological research projects and have actively attended many scientific meetings held in many different countries. Recently, one of my articles has been accepted for poster presentation in Eco Summit 2007to be held in Beijing , China ,May 22-27,2007 (If you nessesary I eill send my invitation letter). I have a problem with my participation in this meeting and would like to ask you for a kind help in this regard. The problem is that my office does not have any regulation to support my attendance also my salary is very low. In Iran have not any source for financial support and I am not able to provide the main fees including airfare and accommodation. On the other hand, I am deeply willing to be present in the meeting as it will certainly give me invaluable opportunities of visiting and listening to many top level scientists from many countries.. I have heard about your organizations consideration and donation in many similar cases. I know that your organization supports many students and scientists as well. Thus, I thought it may be a right way to ask you for a help to solve my problem. This is a sincere request for giving a chance to me to attend the meeting also I contact with this conference for financial support but unfortunately that response was negative I hope I can get a positive response and financial support from you. I appreciate you for any help concerning my request.if you necessary I will send you to another documents and Curculum Vita Would you please inform me when you receive my letter? Best regards Kourosh

Dear Kourosh;
Allow me first to thank you for your contributions to the science field & research development. Unfortunately, Iran is not part of our regional jurisdiction (we cover 12 countries in West Asia not including IRI) and therefore we will not be able to provide any financial support in this regard. In any case, I urge you to write to the Secretary of the subject Conference in China. Usually, when a paper is accepted for presentation at a conference, the author travel & accommodations will be covered by the organizers. Best of luck. Habib

Habib
