These Regional Seas Programmes have not been established under the auspices of UNEP.
They participate in the global meetings of the Regional Seas (RS), share experiences and exchange policy advice and support to the developing RSPs. Thus, they are significant members of the Regional Seas family and are significant partners in the protection and restoration of the marine and coastal environment.
The role of the global Regional Seas Programme is to enhance linkages, coordination and synergies within and amongst global, regional and partner programmes, organizations and actors. In return, the regional programmes support the implementation of the global RS strategic directions, and report regularly on their progress.
