23rd
Session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial
Environment Forum
Nairobi,
21-25 February 2005
Environment
Institute
The
“Environment Institute” is the programme
which forms the umbrella under which most Special Events
during the 23rd Session of the Governing Council/Global
Ministerial Environment Forum (GC-23/GMEF) are organized.
The Environment Institute programme focuses on the implementation
of internationally agreed goals, including those in
the Millennium Declaration, and gives participants the
opportunity to take part in specially targeted events
and training courses related to the issues at stake
during GC-23/GMEF.
The
Environment Institute will be located in the recreation
centre. In addition to hosting a number of Special Breakfast,
Lunch and Evening Events organized by UNEP and partners,
the programme also offers three-hour practical level
training sessions in the afternoon offered by UNDP and
the Smithsonian Institution in partnership with UNEP,
through The Institute@GC-23/GMEF. The objective
of the training sessions is to focus on skills for implementation
of the Millennium Development Goals 1, 3 and 7 related
to poverty alleviation, gender and environmental sustainability.
Pre-registration is free and highly recommended as space
is limited to approximately 40 participants per training
session. Pre-registration can be done on the website
or at The Institute@GC-23/GMEF
registration table in the central conference area.
On
Thursday, the African Business and Sustainable Development
Roundtable takes place parallel to the Environment Institute
programme, while on Saturday 26 January a field trip
will be organized. To view the schedules of these and
