Biography

Kevin Helps is Senior Programme Officer responsible for the UN Environment-Global Environment Facility Chemicals and Waste portfolio. 

Kevin has more than 18 years of experience in programme development and  management in the UN system and has been part of the UN Environment GEF team since 2014. Prior to this he worked for the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, where he started his UN career in 2000. Over this time he was worked across all geographical regions and has managed projects in over 80 countries across Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, West Asia, Latin America and the Pacific.  

Prior to joining the UN System Kevin worked for 10 years in the waste management industry where he pioneered the removal of hazardous wastes from developing countries and post-conflict zones for environmentally sound destruction in facilities across Europe, working for clients such as UN agencies, Astra Zeneca, Pfizer,  GlaxoSmithKline, the UK Ministry of Defense and the US military. His career then moved to sales and marketing with a focus on business development in developing countries.

Kevin holds a BSc degree in Geochemistry and a PhD in the management of nuclear waste,both from the University of Reading, UK.
