Biography

Samwel is the Communication Expert for the UN Environment Programme's Global Environment Facility (GEF) International Waters. He has a wealth of experience, having worked at the Political, Press, and Information section of the European Union Diplomatic Mission to Kenya, the European External Action Service (EEAS), the Strategic Monitoring and Reporting Unit of UN-Habitat, and the Communications Division of the UN Environment Programme.

Throughout his career, Samwel has contributed significantly to advocacy, outreach and communication efforts for a variety of initiatives, projects and programmes. For example, he was involved in promoting initiatives such as the Young Champions of the Earth 2019 and the Emissions Gap Report 2019. Additionally, he has experience in media monitoring on the state of global greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, pollution and waste, terrestrial and marine biodiversity, and ecosystems.

Samwel has a strong background in media and communication, including both traditional and digital media. He has previously served in various roles, such as a news presenter, writer, and radio producer for different media outlets. Furthermore, he writes opinion pieces on policy and governance matters, including op-eds.

Samwel holds a degree in Linguistics, Media, Communication, and Translation from Moi University in Kenya. He is fluent in English, Swahili, and German, and he has a keen interest in environmental and sustainability causes, global communications, diplomacy, and international affairs.
