Resource Efficiency

UNEP works to promote resource efficiency, sustainable consumption and production in both developed and developing countries. The focus is on achieving increased understanding and implementation by public and private decision makers of policies and actions for resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production

Gender mainstreaming seeks to:
Take into consideration gender differentiated consumption patterns and resource utilization including the disproportionate impact of shortage of resources and pollution on women.
Assessment and management of product life cycles will take account of differential gender impacts of production processes. Partnerships, policies and tools applied to create more sustainable products will aim to reduce gender inequality in the distribution of costs and benefits from production and use of goods and services.
Design of advertising campaigns, educational and consumer information tools and pricing instruments will take account of differentiated responses of women and men.
