The nomination process and selection of experts:
UNEP received almost 500 nominations from Governments and other stakeholders. All nominations have been reviewed and a short-list of selected experts is being put together. UNEP is beginning the process of contacting short-listed experts and expects responses back by the end of August 2010.Lists of selected experts will be posted on this website in September 2010.
Selections will be made for coordinating lead authors, lead authors, contributing authors and chapter reviewers. UNEP will also select nominees for the Science and Policy Advisory Board, the Data and Indicators Working Group and the Scenario Working Group.
Members of the High Level Intergovernmental Advisory Panel were selected in June 2010 – see membership list.
The selection of authors for the Regional Working Groups will be finalized after the regional nomination process has been concluded in October 2010.

Regional Consultations:
UNEP is organizing regional consultations for GEO-5 on the dates shown below.
- September 2 Washington DC
- September 6-7 Panama City
- September 9 Ottawa
- September 16-17 Bangkok
- September 20-21 Nairobi
- September 23-24 Geneva
- October 4-5 Bahrain
The aim of the consultations is to agree on priority environmental issues/challenges and their related internationally agreed goals. Discussions will also be held on the development of the regional chapters and on the GEO-5 process.

Regional Nomination Process
Governments and other stakeholders are requested to nominate regional experts for regional chapter working groups based on the priorities and goals selected at the Regional Consultations. The Nomination Portal will be open for 30 days following each consultation. The Nomination Form can be accessed here .
