Even though some environmental progress can be witnessed, there is still much to be done to make the environment more sustainable. Issues such as transport, biodiversity and waste need to be kept high on the policy agenda in order to improve the state of the environment and reach set targets. Acceleration toward more integrated approaches and the implementation and enforcement of environmental policies – together with adaptation to technical progress and new insights – remain core tasks throughout the region (EEA 2003c).
