Gathering and sharing information on waste management is essential to strengthen local, national and regional decision-making and capacity building processes. The GPWM information platform is an online portal that aims to promote, share and exchange information on solid waste related issues. It is currently composed of eight parts, with more to come:
- Searchable list of knowledge bases on waste management
A list of online portals that provide a wide range of information on waste management in different areas. A basic description of each portal is provided (supporting organization, purpose, field and type of information provided, language) as well as a link to the portal itself. It is fully searchable by keywords.
- Meta search tool to perform searches through the websites of all focal areas
This tool allows simultaneous searches by keywords across all the websites of the organizations leading one of the focal areas of the GPWM (UNEP IETC, UNEP SCP, UNEP DEPI, ISWA and UNIDO).
- Calendar of events
This calendar lists events on waste management (seminars, workshops, conferences, meetings, etc.).
- Directory of experts
This searchable directory lists experts in various fields of waste management from several organizations, including focal area leads.
- Maps of ongoing activities
Recent and ongoing activities on waste management around the world undertaken by intergovernmental and international organizations.
- Country needs assessment analyses
A list of analyses on waste management capacity-building needs by country, based on information provided by Governments and others stakeholders.
- Country waste management profiles
A list of profiles aiming to provide information on waste management in different countries or territories.
- Waste management guidelines
A list of freely accessible guidelines on the Internet that assist in different aspects of waste management
All of these components are collaborative, meaning that users are encouraged to contribute information. To do so, users first need to create an account. Once they have been registered, they can use the forms at the bottom of each webpage of the information platform to submit information, which will be reviewed by the GPWM secretariat before being published. Please register, or sign-in if you have already registered.
