Composition

UNEP/GRASP secretariat; Matthew Woods, Daniel Malonza, Melanie Virtue & Johannes Refisch

The GRASP secretariat isprovided by the two sponsoring organizations, UNEP and UNESCO.

Guided by the Rules for the organization and management of the GRASP Partnership, the secretariat provides institutional support and expertise to the varoius organs mandated to run the Partnership.

Functions
The functions of the secretariat include:

  • Promoting the work of the GRASP Partnership;
  • Monitoring the performance of GRASP Partnership-funded activities;
  • Soliciting and where necessary helping prepare projects for funding;
  • Getting advice from the Scientific Commission on project priorities and other issues included in the Commission’s terms of reference;
  • Providing information on GRASP to interested parties;
  • determining the composition and activities of the technical support teams including the development of their terms of reference, taking into consideration the advice of the Scientific Commission, and overseeing the work of those teams;
  • Appointing GRASP patrons, with the approval of the Executive Committee.
  • Raising funds for GRASP activities;
  • Facilitating communication between GRASP partners and the Executive Committee;
  • liaising with existing donors and keep them regularly updated;
  • Managing the finances and accounting of GRASP and reporting to the GRASP Council on such matters;
