ADOPT A CHIMPANZEE / BONOBO

The chimpanzees are divided into two species: the common chimpanzee and the bonobo (also known as the pygmy chimpanzee). Chimpanzees are found in 21 African countries - a wide but discontinuous distribution across the continent. Of the great apes, chimpanzees are the most closely related to humans (they share 98% of their DNA with humans). They, as well as bonobos, are famous for their understanding and utilization of tools.

Bonobos or pygmy chimpanzees are only found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and are the least commonly known. They also are the most bipedal of the apes. Often called the "gentle ape", they live in a female dominated society and maintain harmonious relations through sexual intimacy.
