Providing advice and support to governments, businesses and civil society is essential to achieving a global transition to a green economy and is an integral part of UNEP's Green Economy Initiative (GEI). UNEP is committed to advancing national green economy initiatives through its advisory and technical assistance services. These services include assisting in the development and assessment of green economy reforms, providing analytical and research support, drawing on international experience and best practices, as well as strengthening analytical capabilities at the national level, in particular in developing countries.
In delivering such advisory services, UNEP is working in partnership with other UN agencies and a network of leading policy research institutions and think tanks from around the world to generate timely data, information and analysis to support informed policy-making. These services are meant to respond to specific requests by countries undertaking green economy reforms.
UNEP is currently providing advisory services to several governments and regions. For instance, UNEP is working in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Korea to support the country’s green economy strategy. Under the plan, UNEP has produced an interim report entitled, "Overview of the South Korean Green Growth National Vision." This is an independent review of the country's "Green Growth National Vision" and five-year Green Growth Plan, and is the first in a series of national and regional initiatives.
