The project “South-South Cooperation in Mongolia and Central Asian Countries: Sharing Knowledge on Inclusive Green Economies and Ecological Civilization” aims to: 1) enhance the research capacity of Mongolian and Central Asian experts in the area of Green Economy and Ecological Civilization, and 2) share this knowledge with decision makers and technical experts.
The created knowledge products and the exchange of experience in the framework of this South-South Cooperation project will inform decision-making and policy processes about Green Economy pathways, Ecological Civilization and green investment in participating countries.
At the center of the project is a three-month knowledge exchange programme, which will bring researchers, PhD students and university lecturers from Central Asian countries and Mongolia to Beijing. In the framework of the exchange programme, participants will implement specific research projects and prepare case studies and policy briefs that will feed into the sub-regional window of UNEP’s South-South Cooperation Knowledge Exchange Mechanism, a web-based knowledge platform.
In addition, a high-level policy dialogue roundtable will be organized to discuss China’s concept of Ecological Civilization and Green Economy pathways in Mongolia and Central Asia with regional policy makers.
Another building block of this project will be an expert workshop on green investment, which will involve researchers, green businesses, and policy makers from the Central Asian region. The workshop discussions, as well as the work on green investment undertaken by the participants of the exchange programme, will be compiled in a substantive summary report giving an overview of green investment in the region.
The Chinese government is funding the project.
