What is an ‘environmental emergency’?
An environmental emergency can be generally defined as a sudden onset of a disaster or an accident resulting from natural, technological or human-induced factors, or a combination of these, that cause or threaten to cause severe environmental damage as well as harm to human health and/or livelihoods, as well as to property.
What is AGEE?
The Advisory Group on Environmental Emergencies (AGEE) was established in 1995, at the recommendation of governments. It is an inter-governmental consultative mechanism that brings together disaster managers and environmentalists from developed and developing countries to exchange ideas and experiences on global environmental emergency response issues.
What do I get if I win?
The awards will consist of a trophy that will be presented to the recipients.
Can I nominate myself?
Yes. You may choose to nominate yourself, your own organisation, or a third party whom you believe should receive recognition. See the Award categories for more information.
When will the award be presented?
The inaugural Awards ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the 8th meeting of the international Advisory Group on Environmental Emergencies (AGEE) from 6 -8 May 2009 in Brussels, Belgium.
When will the awardees be notified?
The winners will be notified by March 2009, upon completion of the selection procedure by the judging panel.
Will my travel expenses to the ceremony be covered?
Yes, travel expenses to Brussels, Belgium to receive the award will be covered.In the event that awardees are not able to attend the awards ceremony, announcement of their selection will still be part of the ceremony and any public information activities, and arrangements will be made to deliver the trophy to the awardee.
