National workshop on guidelines for disaster debris waste management in Bangkok
IETC will take part, from 30 May to 1 June 2012, in a national workshop on guidelines for disaster debris waste management, with a focus on flooding, in Bangkok. The workshop is being jointly organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Pollution Control Department (PCD) of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Royal Government of Thailand. The workshop will focus on technology support and capacity building for the management of the debris left in the wake of the severe floods that devastated Thailand during the second semester of 2011. IETC is providing technical support and technical know-how to draft these guidelines on disaster waste management for flooding.
During the workshop, IETC will deliver a presentation on international experiences in the management of waste debris after major natural disasters and on its own work on the management of this particular waste stream. IETC will also facilitate the subsequent training on guidelines for the management of disaster debris waste.
Participation in this workshop follows IETC's organization in February 2011 of an international mission to the Japanese region of Tohoku to exchange experience on managing post-disaster debris.
