  • GPWM Biennium Conference on 5-6 November 2012
    The Global Partnership on Waste Management held its first biennium conference on 5 and 6 November 2012 in Osaka, Japan. The key message of the conference was “waste matters”.

  • Celebrating IETC's 20th Anniversary on 5 November 2012
    The 20th anniversary of the UNEP-Japan agreement to establish IETC fell on 30 October 2012. The occasion was celebrated at a reception on 5 November, as part of the first biennium conference of the Global Partnership on Waste Management, which took place on 5 and 6 November in Osaka.

  • IETC's International Advisory Board meeting on 7 November 2012
    The eighth meeting of the IETC International Advisory Board was held in Osaka. This was the first meeting of the Board since 2006 and the first since the refocusing of IETC in late 2011 to concentrate on waste management. The new Board agreed on revised terms of reference and offered strategic advice on the IETC work programme.

  • IETC at Basel OEWG8 on 27 September 2012
    During the 8th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention in Geneva, Switzerland (25 - 28 September 2012), IETC organized a side event at lunch time on Thursday 27 September, to highlight current IETC activities that contribute to Basel Convention implementation.

  • IETC at RIO+20 on 14 and 20 June 2012
    IETC took part to the Rio+20 - United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro from 13 to 22 June 2012, and organized two side events.

    • UNEP IETC has compiled a report with a proposed strategy on waste management in relation to climate change. The draft paper of this report and proposed strategy has been presented at the following conferences and workshops:
        1. ISWA/DAKOFA Waste and Climate Conference - Copenhagen, Denmark from 3 to 4 December 2009

        2. Seminar on Co-Benefits Approach: Emerging Trends and Needs - Bangkok, Thailand from 11 to 12 March 2010

        3. Mayor of London's Workshop on Waste under C40 Cities Leadership Group - London, United Kingdom from 22 to 24 March 2010

          Based on the feedback from the experts and policy makers, a publication, "Waste and Climate Change – Global Trends and Strategy Framework" was created.
