International Environmental Technology Centre

Participants at Cifal Jeju

UNEP's International Environmental Technology Centre is pleased to be working with UN partners in a new initiative to improve integrated solid waste management in Asia and the Pacific. The project, which is led by the Republic of Korea office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will enhance the capacity of municipalities and other stakeholders to plan for sustainable waste management, taking into account green growth and "eco-town" principles. Other project partners include the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) and its Korean affiliate, CIFAL Jeju (Centre International de Formation des Acteurs Locaux/International Training Centre for Local Actors). The three year project has commenced with a workshop hosted by CIFAL on Jeju Island, Korea, from 3 to 5 April 2013. The workshop was chaired by CIFAL director Ambassador Dal-ho Chung and attended by officials from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. IETC played a core training role and will host CIFAL colleagues in Osaka later in April to start developing e-learning and other project materials prior to the next workshop, which will take place at CIFAL from 22 to 24 May 2013.
