March 2012

• Launch of the website for the Global Partnership on Waste Management on 19 March
  IETC, as secretariat host, is pleased to announce the launch of the website for the Global Partnership on Waste Management (GPWM) as well as the first issue of the GPWM's newsletter.

• Seminar on waste debris management at IETC's offices in Osaka on 6 March
  A seminar on the results of the international experts mission to the Tohoku region to share experience on management of debris created by the tsunami was held at IETC's offices in Osaka.

• Media briefing at the Japan National Press Club on the results of the international experts mission to the Tohoku region to share experience on management of debris created by the tsunami was held at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo, on 5 March.

• International expert mission to the Tohoku region, from 27 February to 2 March
  Along with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), UNEP IETC and Post-Conflict and Disaster Management Branch organized an international mission to the Japanese region of Tohuku to exchange experience on managing post-disaster debris.

• IETC's manual on sustainability assessment of technologies (SAT) is now available as a draft for review and comments

• A new road map for IETC
  IETC recently underwent a full review process and, in the process, a road map for its future work was created on 3 February.

• UNEP-AIST workshop on "waste plastics management in developing countries" in Tsukuba, Japan, from 1 to 4 March 2011

• The 2nd consultation workshop on waste in Osaka, Japan, on 18 and 19 November 2010

• UNEP IETC has compiled a report with a proposed strategy on waste management in relation to climate change. The draft paper of this report and proposed strategy has been presented at the following conferences and workshops:

1. ISWA/DAKOFA Waste and Climate Conference - Copenhagen, Denmark from 3 to 4 December 2009

2. Seminar on Co-Benefits Approach: Emerging Trends and Needs - Bangkok, Thailand from 11 to 12 March 2010

3. Mayor of London's Workshop on Waste under C40 Cities Leadership Group - London, United Kingdom from 22 to 24 March 2010

Based on the feedback from the experts and policy makers, a publication, "Waste and Climate Change – Global Trends and Strategy Framework" was created.
