A training workshop on environmental law for Magistrates in Zambia was held from 13-15 November 2006 at Andrews Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia. The workshop was part of UNEP’s Global Judicial Training Programme and was held in collaboration with the Judiciary of Zambia to train Magistrates in adjudication of environmental laws. The workshop was a follow-up to an earlier workshop supported by UNEP in the year 2005 for Judges of the Superior Courts in Zambia. A total of 25 participants comprising Magistrates and Registrars of High Court and Industrial Court in the Judiciary of Zambia attended the workshop. A total of 10 papers were presented in 10 technical sessions. The major impact of the training workshop is enhanced capacity of the Magistrates to identify cases having environmental issues, effectively adjudicate on them and deliver judgments that will promote access to environmental justice and sustainable development.
