Dear Helen , Dear Colleagues
Nairobi, 27 August 2011-Thank you for your note and briefing on the tragic attack in Abuja. At this difficult time it is reassuring to have your leadership of UNDG signalling a strong sense of common purpose as we appreciate the Secretary General's unequivocal remarks of yesterday (26 August).
It is also reassuring to see the messages of solidarity streaming in from all corners of the world and our UN family. No one can be left in doubt that these kinds of attacks are attacks not just on our colleagues, our institution and us as staff - they are also an assault on everyone who believes in the ideals and mission of our United Nations.
On behalf of all staff in UNEP I wish to join you in expressing our condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in Abuja. Our thoughts are with them as we pray for our colleagues and partners who are recovering from their injuries.
