Nairobi, 11 June 2012 - With just over one week before world governments meet in Brazil for the Rio+20 summit, some of the biggest names in music have been united on a new album, which puts the message of sustainability into song.

The album, Rhythms del Mundo Rio+20, was officially launched on World Environment Day (5 June) and features tracks from U2, Bob Dylan, Sting and a host of other popular artists.

The record also includes a Cuban remix of the track 'Spirit of the Forest' - featuring Kate Bush, Mick Fleetwood, Lenny Kravitz, Gilberto Gil, Ringo Starr, Donna Summer, David Gilmore, Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop, Joni Mitchell, the B-52's, Bryan Wilson and the Beach Boys - which was originally released at the first Earth Summit twenty years ago.

As well as being the official album of Rio+20, Rhythms del Mundo is also marking the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Environment Pogramme (UNEP).

The initiative was co-ordinated by Artists Project Earth, which has released three Rhythms Del Mundo fundraising albums to date. These have supported over 300 projects worldwide, from reforestation initiatives in Africa and South America, to a comic book on climate change in Nicaragua.

The artwork for the album cover was designed by Charlote Sullivan, winner of the UNEP International Children's Painting Competition Winner.

"I would like to express the need for everyone to act", says Sullivan.

"The silhouette of a figure in my painting represents the governments' and global businesses' idle hold over the world. In the background, red, oranges and yellows represent the fossil fuel power plants and the warming of the planet while those that could act use the umbrella to shelter behind. The umbrella illustrates the world being turned inside out by the wind. My wish is that everyone should take care of the environment," she added.
