UN INTER-AGENCY AFFAIRS

UNEP’s role in UN system-wide coordination activities in the field of the environment is supported by the New York Office’s substantive preparations for and participation in major inter-agency meetings, particularly those of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) and two of its sub-committees, the High-Level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) and the UN Development Group (UNDG). The Office also engages in the work of the UN Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs (EC-ESA) and its related groups, as well as represents UNEP in a range of thematic inter-agency bodies. The Office provides substantive reports and policy analysis to UNEP Headquarters on the outcomes of these meetings, including the required follow-up. It also provides support to the work of the UN Environment Management Group (EMG). The Office also promotes and undertakes substantive collaborative initiatives with partners in the UN system, for example with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the field of children’s environmental health.
