  • Launch of UNEP’s Chinese Goodwill Ambassador Li Bingbing. 14:30-15:15
  • UNEP’s Exhibition Launch in UN Pavilion 15:15-15:45
    Together with Artworks for Change, UNEP’s exhibition highlights the work of leading Chinese and international video artists around the theme Nature of Cities. UN Under Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner will open the exhibition.

  • Chongming Forum 13:00-16:00
    This is a series of panel discussions by leading experts on the experiences of the low-carbon economy in urban settings around the world.
  • Launch of the Chinese version of “HOME” 17:00-18:30
    Chinese version of the film HOME, directed by French director and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Yann-Arthus Bertrand, has been dubbed into Chinese by leading actress and UNEP Climate Hero Zhou Xun. Both the Director and Ms. Zhou will launch the film in the UN Pavilion. Also present will be wildlife photographer and UNEP Climate Hero Luo Hong and UNEP’s Regional Director Young –Woo Park.

    A viewing of the complete film will follow the media event at 18:30.

  • Mining the City: resource efficiency for a better life 10:00-12:00
    We live in them, they are springing up everywhere, and more and more people are moving to them: cities are both our homes, and home to some of the world’s more pressing environmental problems. Cities have been source for many problems but they can be home to key solutions towards low-carbon cities and better life? A panel of experts will discuss ways to get more out of our cities, and how they can be made environmentally friendly places to be. UNEP’s Division of Technology, Industry and Economics is organizing this panel discussion.

    Experts, scholars and leaders of industry and financial institutions are attending this closing and award ceremony for technologies and the application of smart grids at home and abroad.

  • Environmental Youth Summit on Climate Change and Environmental Protection 10:00-16:00
    Leading Chinese universities and youth organizations are holding their annual environmental summit in the UN Pavilion. This is a gathering of current and future environmentalists to discuss and to understand the issues of climate change and environmental protection as well as highlight the International Year of Biodiversity.

  • UNEP Environmental Film Programme Opening Ceremony 18:30-20:30
    For Day One of UNEP’s film programme, there will be the showing of Chinese version of HOME, dubbed by Chinese actress and UNEP Climate Hero Zhou Xun.

  • How to Build Back Better After a Disaster: Book Launch and Panel Discussion 14:30-16:00
    UNEP in cooperation with China Daily will have a book launch on the post-Wenchuan Earthquake and a panel discussion with media and experts on how to recover and rebuild after a disaster.

    This will include a discussion with leading entrepreneurs on how their businesses are going green and their vision for the future Green Economy. It will include business groups UNEP already works with, including the China Entrepreneur Club (CEC) and SEE (Society Entrepreneurs Ecology).

  • Forum on Territorial Approach to Climate Change (TACC) 15:00-16:00
    This will include the participation of Chinese mayors and planners as well as environmental officials to discuss climate change impacts in urbanized areas in China.
