Workshop on Promoting Public Procurement of Climate Friendly Alternatives to HFCs in Asia Pacific
Goyang City, 13 March 2015 - In order to foster a dialogue between public procurers and ozone agencies in Asia Pacific, and to build their capacity to integrate alternatives to high-GWP HFCs into public procurement activities, USEPA and UNEP organised a one-day workshop in Goyang, Republic of Korea (13 March), back-to-back with the Ozone2Climate Technology Roadshow and Industry Roundtable and the Joint Thematic Meeting of the South Asia and South East Asia Ozone Officers Networks. Joint SA-SEAP Network Meeting of Ozone Officers

Goyang City, 10 March 2015 – The “Joint Network Meeting of Ozone Officers of South Asia and Southeast Asia and the Pacific” has commenced today, in Goyang City, with National Ozone Officers (NOOs) from 21 countries. The meeting hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea is being organised as part of the UNEP Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) funded by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.  Read more


Guide on Good Practices: Phasing-out HCFCs in the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Servicing Sector

The main purpose of this Guide on Good Practices: Phasing-out HCFCs in the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Servicing Sector is to provide National Ozone Units and refrigeration and air-conditioning training institutes with a standardised module for delivering training programme under HCFC Phase-out Management Plan. It could be used together with web-based slides and interactive animated exercise. The publication can serve as a guide for other multilateral environmental agreements to also think globally and act locally.

Phasing out HCFCs in the Phasing out HCFCs in the Small and Medium-sized Foam Enterprises. This booklet aims to assist the foam enterprises, especially SMEs, to better understand the policies on HCFC phase-out, access to assistance from the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and access alternative technologies in different foam applications taking into account challenges in converting to alternative technology. It also discusses some tips on how to identify enterprises that possibly use HCFCs and verify HCFCs consumption of the enterprises. Read more

ASHRAE and UNEP Strengthen Partnership to Advance Climate and Ozone- friendly Refrigerants

Chicago, 26 January 2015, ASHRAE (founded as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) OzonAction have launched their fourth biennial work plan for 2015-2016, based on a global cooperation agreement signed in 2007, at ASHRAE’s 2015 Winter Conference held in Chicago, IL on 24-28 January 2015.  Read more

Afghanistan NOU and Customs Department Celebrates International Customs Day

Kabul, 26 January 2015 - The National Ozone Unit (NOU) of Afghanistan and Afghanistan Customs Department (ACD) celebrated the “International Customs Day” at the Afghanistan Customs Department Head Quarter in Kabul. Following the 2015 theme which is “Coordinated Border Management”, the National Ozone Unit utilized the opportunity to focus on the management of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and their imports and transits from the neighboring countries.  Read more

The Europe & Central Asia (ECA) Network is inviting the customs & enforcement community to submit nominations for the 4th edition of the ECA Ozone Protection Award. It  is a regional award for the ECA network & associated CEIT countries as well as their trade partners. The award ceremony is scheduled in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in May 2016.

 A new publication, Twenty Questions and Answers About the Ozone Layer, presents complex science in a straightforward manner. It compliments the 2014 Scientific Assessment Report of Ozone Depletion by WMO and the U.N. Environment Programme.

 The Montreal Protocol has completed its quadrennial assessment in accordance with decision XXIII/13 of the Twenty-Third Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol.  The report entitled “Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion: 2014”. Read/Download
