Marine Refrigerated Vessels: Technologies and Refrigerant Management
Athens, 22-24 May 2015 – In collaboration with the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) Hellenic Chapter in Greece, UNEP OzonAction led a special session on marine refrigerated shipping and fishing vessels including new and emerging ozone-friendly, climate-friendly and energy-efficient refrigeration technologies, vessel registration practices, as well as rules and policies for the management of refrigerants as required under the Montreal Protocol  and in particular  hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Annual Meeting of the Ozone Network for Europe & Central Asia, Yerevan, Armenia
Yerevan, 27 May 2015 - The gradual phase-out of ozone layer depleting and global warming gases under the Montreal Protocol, such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and the increasing recognition of the significant contribution of fluorinated greenhouse gases, such as hydrofluorocabons (HFCs), to climate change, has been boosting the use of flammable, toxic and high-pressure alternatives which are ozone-layer and climate-friendly at the same time. Theme for 30th Anniversary of the Vienna Convention and Ozone Day 2015

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, an important milestone in the protection of the ozone layer. The theme for the celebration of the anniversary and this year’s International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer to be marked on 16 September is, “30 Years of Healing the Ozone Together.” The theme is supported by the slogan, “Ozone: All there is between you and UV.”  Read more

 
UNEP hosts HCFC Control Policy & Enforcement Consultation for Democratic People's Republic of Korea
Bangkok, 29 April 2015 – The UNEP OzonAction Compliance Assistance Program (CAP) in the Regional Office for Asia Pacific (ROAP) organized a consultation for the inter-ministry delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with the aim of accelerating national efforts to reduce production and consumption of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) which are ozone-depleting substances (ODS) controlled under the Montreal Protocol.  The inter-sessional informal meeting was held on the 12 and 13 June 2015, in Vienna, co-convened by Mr. Patrick McInerney (Australia) and Mr. Rafael da Solar (Brazil). The informal meeting was held pursuant to the agreement of the Open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, at its thirty-fifth meeting held in Bangkok, 22-24 April 2015, to continue to work inter-sessionally in an informal manner to study the feasibility and ways of managing HFCs, including, inter alia, the related challenges set out in annex II to the report of that meeting (UNEP/OzL.Pro.WG.1/35/6), with a view to the establishment of a contact group on the feasibility and ways of managing HFCs at the thirty-sixth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group. One of the components of the inter-sessional work was the informal meeting in Vienna. Read/download the letter of the co-conveners sent to the participants of the thirty-fifth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group to inform them of the outcome of its agreement and the factual record of the key issues raised in the discussion on the feasibility and ways of managing hydrofluorocarbons.
