Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá 21 de septiembre de 2023 – Los ganadores y familias del Concurso Regional de Arte para América Latina y el Caribe “El Planeta es Tu Lienzo” participaron activamente en el evento de dos días organizado por el equipo de AcciónOzono del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA) en América Latina y el Caribe. El taller, se llevó a cabo los días el 14 y 15 de septiembre, justo antes de la conmemoración del Día Mundial para la Protección de la Capa de Ozono, que cada año se celebra el 16 de septiembre.
En sus palabras de bienvenida, Anne-Marie Fenner, oficial de Información del Programa AcciónOzono del PNUMA, se refirió al Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible Nº4 de las Naciones Unidas sobre Garantizar una Educación Inclusiva, equitativa y de calidad y promover oportunidades de aprendizaje permanente para todos. “Este objetivo no se limita sólo a las aulas, sino que se extiende a iniciativas como este concurso de arte regional, donde el aprendizaje y la creatividad se fusionan para promover un mundo más sostenible”, expresó Fenner. El objetivo del programa de premios era vincular la educación ambiental con diferentes formas de arte y estimular la creatividad.
El evento se desarrolló en el contexto de un Programa Creativo que comenzó en el Bio-Museo de Amador, Ciudad de Panamá. En el cual los participantes pudieron aprender sobre la ciencia y el arte en Panamá, así como la correlación entre biodiversidad y cultura.
Por la tarde, se desarrollaron dos talleres creativos en la Oficina Regional de PNUMA. El primero de ellos, “Hola Creatividad”, fue facilitado por Oriana Mosquera de Seres Creadores y consistió en la realización de ejercicios prácticos para potenciar la creatividad y el pensamiento lateral. Los temas fueron: bienestar creativo, arte y sostenibilidad y proceso creativo.
El segundo, denominado Taller de Coloración Creativa con Agua, fue facilitado por Mariel Guzmán Martínez, Directora de Perpetua Studio y miembro del Jurado de El Planeta es Tu Lienzo. Los participantes aprendieron las técnicas fundamentales de coloración con agua y superposición de capas transparentes para crear cuadros llenos de luz y color. Al final, se trabajó en el desarrollo de una obra de arte individual, utilizando la abstracción lírica para proyectar emociones y sentimientos con elementos geométricos, rítmicos y expresivos. Fue un taller impresionante donde los ganadores adquirieron nuevas perspectivas de la pintura basadas en técnicas y reglas básicas.
Al día siguiente, los participantes fueron llevados a una excursión a la selva tropical en el Parque Nacional Soberanía en Gamboa, a unos 30 kilómetros de Ciudad de Panamá. El Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, ofrece a los visitantes la posibilidad única de combinar arte y medio ambiente. La caminata matutina por la selva tropical es el mejor momento para ver y apreciar la gran cantidad de especies. En dicha ocasión, fue posible avistar monos, diferentes especies de aves e incluso una serpiente venenosa y un pequeño lago. Rommel Rosales fotógrafo panameño, e integrante del jurado del concurso, facilitó un Taller de Fotografía y enseñó a los participantes cómo tomar fotografías claras y de alta resolución, y consejos y trucos para tomar retratar la flora.
La segunda actividad del día fue en Casa Sola, situada en el Casco Viejo, un pueblo antiguo de la Ciudad de Panamá. En este espacio -abierto a exposiciones de arte y educación artística- un guía de lugar explicó las diferentes obras de arte. Además, hubo una experiencia cafetera para demostrar cómo preparar un buen café a la temperatura adecuada y el tipo de grano de café utilizado. Los participantes probaron uno de los cafés panameños Geisha más caros en comparación con otros locales. Sin embargo, no hubo acuerdo sobre cuál era el mejor.
El ganador en la categoría de fotografía, Rodrigo Rico de México, animó a los visitantes a encontrar su voz y comunicarla a través de la ilustración, el video, la fotografía, la danza, la música, la artesanía o cualquier forma de expresión a favor de nuestro medio ambiente y la protección de la Capa de Ozono.
Las actividades de creatividad y divulgación formarán parte de la Estrategia de Comunicación Global de la Enmienda de Kigali, que estará disponible en enero de 2024 para que todos los países orienten sus actividades de sensibilización.

Creative programme on Kigali Amendment initiated in Panama
Panama City, Panama 21 September 2023 – The winners and families of the Regional Art Contest for Latin America and the Caribbean “The Planet is Your Canvas” participated actively in the two-day event organized by UNEP OzonAction team in Latin America and the Caribbean on 14 and 15 September 2023. The workshop was held just before the commemoration of World Ozone Day on 16 September.
Ms. Anne-Maria Fenner, Information Manager, UNEP OzonAction, reminded the participants about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 4 on Ensuring inclusive, equitable, quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. This goal is not limited only to classrooms but extends to initiatives like this Regional Art contest, where learning and creativity merge to promote a more sustainable world. The aim of the award programme was to link environmental education with different forms of art and stimulate creativity.
The Creative programme started in Bio-Museo in Amador, Panama City. A guided tour took the participants to learn about the science and art in Panama as well as the correlation between biodiversity and culture. The participants also visited the museum and the exhibition.
In the afternoon, the participants had two creative workshops at the UN Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. The “Hello Creativity” workshop was facilitated by Oriana Mosquera from Seres Creadores. This workshop consisted of practical exercises to boost creativity and lateral thinking. The themes were: creative well-being, art and sustainability and creative process.
This was followed by a Creative Water Colouring workshop facilitated by Mariel Guzman Martinez, Director of Perpetua Studio, and member of the Jury of The Planet is Your Canvas. The participants learnt the fundamental water colouring technics and transparent layers of superposition to create paintings full of light and colour. In the end, all participants created their own piece of art using lyrical abstraction to project emotions and feelings with geometric, rhythmic, and expressive elements. It was an impressive workshop where the winners gained new perspectives on painting based on basic techniques and rules.
Day two of the workshop focused on photography. The participants were taken on an early morning field trip to the tropical rainforest in Soberanía National Park in Gamboa about 30 kilometres from Panama City. Thanks to the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, they offer visitors the unique possibility to combine art and the environment. The early morning walk in the rainforest is the best time to see and appreciate the vast number of different species. The participants saw monkeys, different species of birds, and even a poisonous snake and a small lake. Rommel Rosales from Panama, also a jury member of the Regional Art contest, facilitated the photography workshop and taught the participants how to take clear, high-resolution photos, and tips and tricks for taking flora photos.
The second activity of the day was in Casa Sola which is situated in Casco Viejo, an old town of Panama City. This space is open to art exhibitions and art education. The guide explained the different art pieces and one artist was present to show his artwork. Moreover, there was a coffee experience to demonstrate how to prepare good coffee at the right temperature and the type of coffee beans used. The participants tried one of the most expensive Panamanian coffees Geisha compared with other local ones. However, there was no agreement on which one was the best.
The Panamanian journal La Estella interviewed all the winners: Alejandro de Jesús Garcia Oliveira, Danna Torrejon, Rodrigo Rico and Noelia Vinueza as well as jury member Mariel Guzman Martinez.
Rodrigo Rico, winner in the photography category, encourages others to find their voice and communicate it through illustration, video, photography, dance, music, crafts, or any form of expression for our environment and protection of the Ozone Layer. All voices are welcome to form the network as OzonAction’s slogan says Every Action Counts!
The creativity activities will be part of the Global Communication Strategy of the Kigali Amendment which will be available in January 2024 for all countries to guide their awareness raising activities.
