“Molorak” Junior Team (meaning “Planet” in Armenian) was founded after the National Ozone Unit of Armenia conducted its first awareness seminar on the Ozone Layer issues at the middle school N176 in 2006. Since then the “Molorak” Junior Team developed projects which aim at raising awareness among children of primary and secondary schools of Armenia on:
- the importance of the ozone layer,
- its depletion,
- ozone depleting substances and their global warming potential as well,
- the efforts of world community to save the ozone layer,
- the input children can personally have and
- means of protection from ultraviolet radiation.
“Molorak” members also tell children about the Montreal Protocol and how it unites countries all over the world, about its input to climate protection issue.
Another activity implemented by the “Molorak” junior environmental Club is the Campaign “Save the trees – recycle paper”. Children organized collection of the paper waste at school during a certain period and then took it to the paper-recycling factory where they saw the process of turning the paper waste into the packaging cardboard.

We sat down for a quick chat with Mr Aram Gabrielyan, Climate Focal Point at the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia.
In this interview, he talked about how the ozone layer protection can respond to the the climate challenge by establishing clear differentiations between the obligations of the countries. He also evoked the next Climate Change Conference in Cancun. Stressing the fact that Parties should turn their faces toward the problem and not against it. Finally, he shared with us his wish for the Earth: people have to realize that they are part of nature and start living in peace with it.
