What is Paint for the Planet?

Paint for the Planet is an exhibit and auction of children's art to launch the global United Nations campaign "UNite to Combat Climate Change".

The paintings on climate change featured at the event were chosen from a collection of nearly 200,000 winning entries from UNEP's International Children's Painting Competitions, which has been held every year for the last 17 years.

This is the first time the original artworks have ever been displayed.

When and where is Paint for the Planet taking place?

The exhibit opens at UN Headquarters in New York on 23 October at 12:30pm.

On 25 October, a selection of the paintings will be auctioned at the Harvard Club of New York City to raise emergency funds for children affected by climate-related disasters, such as the recent storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean.

Where do the auction's proceeds go?

Proceeds will go to an emergency fund for children affected by climate-related disasters, such as the recent storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean.

Can anyone attend the exhibit and auction?

The exhibit is open to all. To participate in the auction at the Harvard Club, please contact Lucy Jasmin at or Anne-France White at unepmedia@unep.org.

Can I bid for a painting online if I cannot make it to New York on 25 October?

Yes. We will be running an online auction, and people will also be able to pre-bid for paintings through this website. More information will be posted shortly.

What is the "UNite to Combat Climate Change" campaign?

Paint for the Planet will be the launch pad for the "UNite to Combat Climate Change" campaign - the UN-wide campaign to support the call for a meaningful agreement at the climate change talks in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December 2009.

Will the Paint for the Planet exhibit travel to any other locations?

Yes. After staying at UN Headquarters for one month, the exhibit will travel to various climate-related events and meetings around the world, culminating in Copenhagen.
