6th Global Partnership Meeting of the PCFV, 10 - 11th April - Beijing, China

The 6th Global Partnership Meeting of the partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles (PCFV) is planned to be held in Beijing, China on the 10th and 11th of April 2008. This will be the sixth gathering of partners since PCFV's inception in 2002 when it was launched as a result of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg South Africa. The meeting, which is hosted by the Chinese State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), will be opened by a senior representative of the Chinese government.

The PCFV is the leading global initiative to promote cleaner fuels and vehicles in developing and transition countries. It provides a range of technical, financial and networking support for governments and other stakeholders to improve urban air quality. Since its inception, the PCFV has directly supported implementation on the ground in every region of the globe.

About 50 participants are expected to attend the meeting, representing over twenty eight partner organisations, among them governments such as Corpaire - Institution mandated by Ecuadorian Government for Air Quality Control, fuel and vehicle industry Associations such as the International Petroleum Industry Environment Conservation Association (IPIECA) and the Japan Automobile Manufactures Association (JAMA), NGO's such as Centro Mario Molina Chile, international Organisations such as the African Refiners Association, as well as Academic Institutions such as the National University of Colombia. The host country will be well represented through SEPA.

The global partnership meeting, which takes place every two years, is expected to examine the partnership's increasingly emerging key regional and global role, in the wake of global concern on climate change and sustainable development. Nomination of new advisory group members, the governance structure that runs the partnership, will also take place. New publications will also be launched at this meeting.

6 GPM has been organized by the UNEP-based Clearing-House of the partnership with logistical support from the hosts, the Chinese State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA).
