 The workshop on UNEP Fleet Management Toolkit, held on 7 July 2009 in Harris Hotel,
helped fleet operators and managers in developing strategies that will reduce the environmental and health impacts of their fleet in manner in which it is corrective and
cost effective.
Fleet managers received detailed training on UNEP Fleet Management Toolkit or practical ways to optimize fuel economy through vehicle savings, vehicle maintenance, cleaner fuel usage and eco-driving training.
The workshop was organized by the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities Center and Swiss contact Indonesia Foundation with support of ADB, SIDA, UNEP, and PCFV. The speakers were Dr. Dollaris R. Suhadi, practitioner on environment and transportation, and Dr. Zaenal Arifin, practitioner and technical expert on vehicle engine and vehicle management.
Toward the end of the workshop, participants listened to a pre-recorded presentation by Alvin Mejia, AQM Researcher from Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities Center (CAI-ASIA). The workshop was organized by Swiss contact Indonesia Foundation with support of During the Q&A, topics discussed include:
- Eco-driving and vehicle maintenance being the most affordable and practical waysfor fleet operators to save fuel, reduce costs and emissions;
- Inquiry on eco-driving training provider;
- Concern over poor diesel quality that affects vehicle maintenance and performance,
accelerates the tear and wear of engine components, i.e. injection pump;
- Some participants having difficulty in understanding the tools because of use of
English as medium for the tools;
- What would be the next steps if participants agree to pilot the tools.
The goal of the workshop was to have at least three companies agree to pilot the toolkit.
Thereby, a brief questionnaire was handed to participants and collected at the end of the workshop. Based on the answers provided, 18 fleet operators are willing to implement
UNEP Fleet Management Toolkit in their workplace. Furthermore, three fleet operators, namely HIBA UTAMA, BLU Transjakarta, and PT Serasi Auto Raya, had expressed interest to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for further cooperation.
A total of 20 fleet operators from Jakarta and surrounding with an estimated total number of 18,000 vehicles operated attended the workshop. In addition to fleet operators, two governmental agencies, The Ministry of Environment (KLH) and DKI Jakarta Environmental
Board (BPLHD) attended the event.
