Ministers Re-Commit to Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles at Environment for Europe Ministerial, Belgrade FYR Macedonia Lead Phase-out Within Reach
During the Sixth Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe” in Belgrade 10 - 12 October 2007 ministers and high-level officials from 51 UN Economic Commission fro Europe (UNECE) member states and the European Commission, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries to meet in Manama, Bahrain A major meeting of 15 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and North African countries of the League of Arab States (LAS) are scheduled to meet in Bahrain 12-13 March 2008 to discuss clean fuels and vehicles in the region. » More |

PCFV Technical Mission to Serbia The world is going unleaded - with only 18 countries left still selling leaded gasoline, the end 2008 global deadline to eliminate leaded petrol is within reach. In southeast Europe, only three countries have yet to commit to meet the target for next year (FYR Macedonia is already committed to January 2008). In the region, Serbia is the key to eliminating leaded petrol in Europe, given its status as exporter to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. The government expects to ban leaded petrol between 2009 and 2010. » More |
Following the South America Sulphur in Vehicle Fuels Conference of February 2007 in Quito, where participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Suriname agreed that a subregional target of 50 parts per million sulphur diesel is attainable by all countries within the next few years, the UNEP-based Clearing-House of the PCFV has been working together with partners in the region and the UNEP Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean to ensure that low sulphur fuels and cleaner vehicles standards for improved air quality are on the forum agenda and will be discussed by ministers during the ministerial segment. » More |
