Aidai Kurmanova

Head of UNEP’s Central Asia Office


Biography

Ms. Aidai Kurmanova started her assignment as the Head of UNEP’s Central Asia Office in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 2 February 2019. 

Ms Kurmanova brings 21 years of developing country experience, including her recent five-year position as the First Deputy Minister of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic. Her main areas of expertise include sustainable economic development, policy design and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. She has developed strategic documents on green economy, e-governance, and small and medium enterprise development. She has led the SDG nationalization process for the Kyrgyz Republic. She brings first-hand experience in intergovernmental policies and procedures, and in developing and implementing a cohesive economic growth strategy.

Aidai also has a valuable and comprehensive understanding of international donor policies and procedures. She has significant practical work experience with the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic in improving the environment for business and has promoted draft laws on economic growth. Aidai also has an extensive network of business associations, entrepreneurs, civil society organizations, donor organizations and NGOs.
