This evolving initiative is a collaborative inter-agency effort that seeks to build on the convening power and expertise of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The UNEP Climate Change programme helps developing countries to reduce vulnerabilities and build resilience to the impacts of climate change. UNEP builds and strengthens national institutional capacities for vulnerability assessment and adaptation planning, and supports national efforts to integrate climate change adaptation measures into development planning and ecosystem management practices.

The UNESCO Intersectoral Platform on Climate Change supports the implementation of the UNESCO Strategy to Address Climate Change that aims to develop an effective response to climate change and calls for action in all of the Organization’s fields of competence.

The WMO World Climate Programme (WCP) assists WMO members and relevant international organizations in using climate information to reduce negative impacts of climate variability and change, and to obtain optimal benefits from climate as a resource, in order to enhance public safety, health and welfare, to alleviate poverty and to promote sustainable development.

PROVIA also implements activities in collaboration with a number of institutions and partners.
