UNDP has been a Regional Seas partner since 1978 when it became active in the Priority Actions Programme (PAP) of the Mediterranean Action Plan, with special interest in aquaculture and renewable sources of energy.
Today UNDP works with UNEP on indicators pertaining to sustainable development, data collection and information dissemination, and is a partner with UNEP and the World Bank in the Global Environment Facility.
Present in present in 166 countries, UNDP works to promote effective water governance by supporting the sustainable use of marine, coastal and freshwater resources and improving access to water supply and sanitation services. UNDP also promotes cooperation in trans-boundary waters management.
