The 11th regular session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) was held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th May 2006.
African ministers responsible for the Environment discussed key issues mainly related to the environment in the continent; the financing of environment programmes at the country level, including the debt-for nature swap; the biennial work programme of AMCEN; and linkages between AMCEN and the African Union Commission.
The ministerial segment on 25 and 26 May 2006 was preceded by the meeting of experts from 22 to 24 May 2006.
Provisional agenda
The ministerial policy dialogue on the following topics:
1. Financing environment programmes at the country level, including the debt-for nature swap;
2. African Environment Facility as a financial mechanism for the implementation of environmental projects and programmes in the context of the action plan for the environment initiative of NEPAD; and
3. Linkage between AMCEN and the African Union Commission.
