UN agencies involved in the Nairobi River Basin Programme, namely UNEP, UNDP and UN-HABITAT, will draw lessons from their experience of relevant programmes and projects already implemented, on-going, and those planned in Nairobi and elsewhere, addressing similar issues in order to inform the NRBP process. They will provide leadership and encourage partnership in the specific areas of focus outlined in the annexes of this proposal document. Therefore, the role of the UN agencies that are partners under the NRBP will include the following principal activities:
    • Support to the implementation of effective functional institutional arrangements for multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder coordination for sanitation;
    • Strengthening of the GoK in developing and delivering on strategic priorities for water and environmental sanitation;
    • Support to the establishment of relevant and effective integrated water and environmental sanitation policies and legislation;
    • Support to the establishment of an effective integrated water and environmental sanitation information system;
    • Documentation of best practices of integrated water and environmental sanitation improvement and dissemination to other cities in Africa with similar situations.
