The special initiative on the Nairobi River covers a distance of 2.5 km of the river stretch from Museum Hill round-about to Race-course Road Bridge .

Interventions on the River Stretch Include:

• Delineation and securing of the riparian reserve.
• Removal of accumulated solid waste along river stretch & tunnels.
• Landscaping, bank stabilization and greening the area.
• Construction offstorm drains to minimize soil erosion.
• Installation of public toilets spaced-out along river stretch .
• Installation of floodlights to enhance security .
• Laying of concrete at the Matatu Terminus with sheds & benches.
• Relocation of Maasai Market to Globe Round-about.
• Co-ordination of informal business activities into organised enterprises.
